YOU JUST LANDED ON THE HOME PAGE OF THE FIRST AND ONLY TRUE NATIVE WILD BEE SANCTUARY ON THE PLANET AND WE'RE BUZZIN' YOU'RE HERE...

BECAUSE YOU'VE COME INTO OUR DIGITAL NEST WE RECKON YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT BEES ARE IN TROUBLE AND YOU'RE HERE TO HELP SAVE THEM...YOU JUST NEED GUIDANCE TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THINGS TO SAVE THEM...

I'm The Bee Guy - founder of this unique planet positive project - nice to meet you!

And I'm happy to be your guide to make sure what you do really helps endangered native wild bees.

We need to act fast, smart, bravely and with purpose...so let's do this!

First Thing You Need To Know:

NOT ALL BEES ARE HONEY BEES!

There are about 20,000 species of bee worldwide and only a handful of these are honey bees.

90% of bee species are Solitary Bees (such as the little cutie at the top of this page).

The remainder of bee species are Bumblebees (which you'll see all over this site cause we love 'em!).

So...MOST BEES WORLWIDE ARE NOT HONEY BEES.

REMEMBER THAT!

Second thing you need to know:

KEEPING HIVES OF HONEY BEES DOES NOTHING TO HELP ENDANGERED NATIVE WILD BEES!

Honeybees are not endangered. They do not need saving. They are for the most part a farmed species.

Keeping Honeybees is now recognised as part of the problem - not the solution.

Honeybees compete with Endangered Native Wild Bees for ever scarcer food resources.

One honeybee hive can house as many as 60,000 bees during the summer.

If only 1/3rd of the bees in a hive are out foraging, making up to 1000 flower visits in a day, that adds up to 20,000,000 (20 million!) flower visits every day - FROM JUST ONE HIVE!

So...IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP SAVE ENDANGERED NATIVE WILD BEES - DON'T KEEP HIVES KEEP FLOWERS. NATIVE WILD FLOWERS.

Third thing you need to know? Nope...instead a little bit about us as it's probably important too!

WE'RE THE FIRST AND ONLY TRUE NATIVE WILD BEE SANCTUARY ON THE PLANET. 55ACRES (THE SIZE OF 31 FOOTBALL PITCHES) OF PURENESS DEDICATED TO SAVING NATIVE WILD BEES AND NATURE. WE'RE THE ONLY CERTIFIED VEGAN ORGANIC LAND IN IRELAND. WE'RE UNIQUE, DISRUPTIVE, IRRESISTIBLE AND EFFECTIVE. WE CARE SO WE DARE...AND NOBODY DOES IT BETTER!

Back in 2017 I had a 'eureka moment' whilst sitting in a field full of clover and bumblebees on our family farm.

Over the next few months I morphed from quiet-spoken novice vegan-organic farmer to the force for nature that is now my alter ego - The Bee Guy.

So what is The Bee Guy? Well if Willy Wonka, Dara O'Briain and Bob Geldof got together and had a baby and that baby ended up owning a farm...the result would be The Bee Guy.

And The Bee Guy (me) spends all his time, aided and abetted by his wife and family, doing what you'd imagine The Bee Guy would do...advocating for native wild bees. Working to get the planet to love bees and save them.

Because, unfortunately bees do need saving!

Third thing you need to know:

NATIVE WILD BEES NEED FLOWERS BUT NOT ALL FLOWERS ARE EQUAL (OR GOOD FOR THEM!).

Our Native Wild Bees need flowers. Loads of 'em! Flowers are where bees get their food - foraging on them for pollen and nectar. They need a constant supply of flowers from early Spring until late Autumn.

And the best flowers for Native Wild Bees are Native Wildflowers - the flowers they have evolved with.

Non-native flowers such as Sunflowers, Cosmos and Phacelia are also great for supplementing their diet and can provide important food during 'hungry gaps" in their lifecycle.

When providing flowers for bees please be aware that most store-bought plants are pre-treated with a toxic cocktail of chemicals that are harmful to bees, other creatures, your garden, soil and water.

Always seek out organic or chemical-free untreated plants and seed!
